The sectoral dimension of the ILO’s work- Update of sectoral aspects regarding the global economic downturn: Public administration
This paper reviews and analyzes employment and labour developments in public administration during 2010. Many social, political and economic factors influence public administration employment, but the downturn increasingly affected public employment working conditions in different ways in each country, according to the nature of its linkages to the global economy and the political decisions taken to confront the crisis. The paper suggests that governments may wish to engage in social dialogue in public administration when seeking measures to counter the downturn, in order to ensure that measures find wide support and the risk of social unrest is reduced.
