Rethinking Youth Employment Coordination in East Africa

Youth employment continues to be one of the greatest challenges that the world faces. The weakening of the global recovery in 2012 and 2013 has exacerbated the problem resulting in a global youth unemployment rate of 12.6 per cent and 73 million young people estimated to be unemployed in 2013. Even though, the youth unemployment rates have been low in Sub-Saharan Africa, this has been linked to high levels of poverty suggesting that working is a necessity for most young people.
