Rapid assessment on child labour in Timor Leste
This Rapid Assessment was undertaken by the ILO in response to concerns about a growing problem of child labour in Timor Leste. Although reliable national data of the extent of child labour is not available, the difficult economic and social circumstances in Timor Leste especially in recent times have made children more vulnerable to dropping out of school and being involved in work.

Child labour is perceived by many stakeholders as a common phenomenon in Timor Leste, although reliable national data are not available. While the national law on manpower in Timor Leste has set a prohibition on employing underage children, the economic, educational and cultural situation in Timor Leste means that children in this country are vulnerable to being involved in work.
