Labour migration and remittances

Promoting informed policy dialogue on migration, remittance and development in Nepal

Remittances have a significant impact at the household level because they allow migrants and their families an opportunity for increased income and a better standard of living in Nepal.

Migration from Nepal is not a new phenomenon, but it has been on the increase in recent years, with the majority of flows consisting of low-skilled migrants moving to Malaysia or the Middle East for temporary work contracts in such fields as construction and domestic work.
To look at migration and development within the Nepali context, this study investigates the complexities between the two dynamics by drawing on the analysis of the findings from remittance-receiving households, returnee migrants, mapping of global good practices, and relevant stakeholders.
