The Potential Role of Exports in Promoting Formalization and Decent Job Creation for Youth in Jordan
This document explores the relationship between exports and decent and formal employment and tries to identify the major factors inhibiting export promotion and formalization, specifically among enterprises producing products with high export potential.

Over recent decades, The Government of Jordan has placed increased emphasis on the role of trade as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
This paper attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of Jordan’s trade and export performance in the context of the accelerated pace of globalization. It also seeks to assess the viability of export-oriented development for decent, formal and productive job creation in the Kingdom, including by examining the extent to which export-oriented sectors have increased the well-being of workers, including by the provision of better working conditions.
The research concludes with a set of recommendations that draw on the findings of the primary and secondary data analysis and proposes measures to promote exports and formal job creation for the youth.
