Platform work in Jordan: Challenges and opportunities
This report examines the potential of digital labour platforms (DLPs) in addressing unemployment and economic inactivity among vulnerable groups in Jordan, including youth, women and refugees, and highlights key challenges and decent work deficits surrounding these new forms of work.

Despite efforts to improve the labour market situation in Jordan, young people and other less advantaged groups continue to face systemic obstacles to securing decent employment.
The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the situation, leading to widespread job losses and increased job insecurity. DLPs offer an alternative approach, providing short-term, remote work opportunities that allow workers to gain new skills and experience. However, these arrangements are often informal, leaving workers at risk of exploitation and unhealthy working conditions.
This paper explores two popular fields of work on DLPs, namely translation and writing and creative and multimedia activities, highlighting the main drivers of the shift towards DLPs and the differences in working conditions between the platform-based and traditional forms of work.
