Pathways to Market Inclusion for Urban Refugees and Host Communities

A Market System Analysis of the Beauty and Personal Care, Creative and Construction Sectors in Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya

This market systems analysis of the beauty and personal care, creative, and construction sectors was conducted in the framework of the ‘ ILO Pathways’ project, and offers evidence-based recommendations to strengthen economic inclusion of Kenya’s urban refugee population. Using the joint ILO’s Approach to Inclusive Market Systems (AIMS), the study examines how refugees and vulnerable host communities participate in these sectors and analyses bottlenecks and opportunities across the three selected sectors. The study outlines interventions to improve market access, foster enterprise development, and promote decent work for both refugees and host communities in Kenya’s urban environments.
