Papua New Guinea Seasonal Workers Business Awareness Reader

Stage 1 training is developed to be delivered as part of pre-departure training. The focus is to help participants to simply start thinking about the concept of starting a future business, and the practical steps that can be taken to identify a business idea and draft a business plan.

This Business Awareness Reader is part of a business training package for seasonal workers. The training package includes a half-day training that will introduce you to the basic concept of starting a business during your pre‐departure training; and another training on your return to PNG that will provide more detailed information about starting a business.

This booklet provides useful exercises that can be completed in a participants' own time, which will help decide if a participant would want to start a business, generate some business ideas, and develop a plan of actions that will be useful to prepare a participant to start a business.

The objectives of this Business Awareness Reader are to help participants:
- Understand what a business is and the characteristics and challenges of running a business
- Review the steps to developing good business ideas
‐ Assess business characteristics and skills
‐ Identify skills and contacts that can be developed during seasonal work to help develop a business idea
- Set personal and financial goals to help start an own business.
