Entertainment workers face many violations of their labour rights at the workplace. This limits the efficacy of the Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control 2006, which prioritizes entertainment workers access to information, education and communication on HIV prevention and control.
Harm reduction projects targeting entertainment workers have focused mainly on prevention services rather than labour rights violations that increase entertainment worker vulnerability to HIV infection and inhibit their use of HIV testing, treatment and care services.
This ILO–UNAIDS joint initiative therefore fulfills a gap in the current response – to ensure that the labour rights of entertainment workers are protected and issues of violence, health service access and unsafe working conditions are addressed.
