GENSEC: A Gender-responsive Sectoral Policy Tool

The GENSEC policy tool helps governments integrate gender equality objectives into sectoral and industrial policies, to expand decent employment opportunities for women and to remove barriers that prevent them from entering dynamic and high-productivity sectors.

Why it matters

Sectoral policies can contribute to addressing gender inequalities in the quantity and quality of employment. Without explicit measures, structural change can reinforce gender inequalities and limit women’s access to the most productive sectors.

Background

This report emerges from the work of the UN WomenInternational Labour Organization UN Women-ILO Joint Programme Promoting decent employment for women through inclusive growth policies and investments in care, and from lessons learned in applying a gender-responsive diagnostic policy tool in five countries.
