Gender sensitization of women and men trade union workers
This resource was part of a series of trainings on gender sensitization have been organized as the part of Action Programme signed between ILO and Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF).
Recognizing that women workers are largely marginalized and highly vulnerable to discrimination and exploitation, the trade unions have a critical role to play to organize women workers and represent and protect their interests. Considering this, it is essential to build up the capacity of labour and the corresponding system to develop economic and social capability.
PWF in consultation with the ILO organized a series of successful trainings in six regions (Peshawar, Rawalpindi/ Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi and Hyderabad). The receptive and favourable attitude of men is highly imperative to create supportive environment for female counterparts, in line with that 228 men and women in trade unions and councilors have been trained.
Major themes/ subjects of the training included: conceptual framework of gender in the context of Pakistan; realization of gender issues in the world of work; the role of Trade Unions to address the needs and problems encountered by women; rights of women workers; and national and international laws.
