While women before the tsunami often started businesses together with someone else, post-tsunami women most often established or re-started their businesses by themselves. These businesses most often are home-based. This can be explained mainly through women’s struggle to combine family with business responsibilities, which is more easily achieved, if women’s businesses are close to their homes.
