Employment Diagnostic Analysis: Malawi
Employment Working Paper No. 73
Malawi has turned the corner into a new era of development, following lacklustre
economic performance (1994-2004) and devastation from the impact of HIV/AIDs. Since
2005 there has been steady and reasonably robust annual GDP growth (6.77%) and falls in
poverty. This positive trend can be attributed to increased agricultural production, resulting
in part from the introduction of subsidies for fertilizers and improved seeds for maize
production.
