Employer perspectives on social protection for expatriate workers in Kuwait

This report complements a review of national social protection legislation in GCC countries and presents a perspective on social protection from the point of view of employers registered with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). Established in 1959, the KCCI is a non-profit, self-financed private institution, which acts as a consultative entity on economic affairs, with over 79,000 registered members (KCCI 2023). The report is the first of its kind in the Gulf region to provide this depth of analysis of employer views on specific social protection provisions for expatriate workers. Including employers’ views helps ensure that policies to protect workers are successfully designed and implemented. The report aims to prepare the ground upon which to consider potential policy adjustments, with a view to providing better coverage for expatriate workers.
