This paper brings to light the current and emerging issues concerning the promotion of decent work for older persons in Thailand. It is a case study of a developing country which faces policy challenges to cope with the impacts of rapid population ageing on the labour market, and thus, on the country’s productivity and socio-economic development. The paper demonstrates that the promotion of decent work for older persons is an inter-generational and society-wide issue, which calls for policies responding to specific needs of older persons in line with a broader policy framework. Building upon the challenging task of compiling and analysing multi-year, age-, gender- and area-disaggregated data, this paper supplements the largely limited information available on the subject.
