Report

Decent work and the safety of journalists

The report examines how fundamental principles and rights at work, as well as other relevant international labour standards, can promote the safety of journalists and help governments, media employers, workers, and their respective organizations develop strategies and actions for ensuring safety and protection in journalism.

Journalists and media workers are subject to killings, violence and harassment in their line of work. As this report sets out, the safety of journalists depends not only on freedom of expression but on the enjoyment of basic labour rights.
