Chapter 6. Can the African Continental Free Trade Area promote the implementation of SDG 8? Decent work and economic growth

This chapter assesses the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to promote the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8) on decent work and economic growth. It reviews available economic projections of the AfCFTA’s labour market impact and analyses how concerns related to SDG 8 are reflected in the AfCFTA’s legal and institutional design. On this basis, the chapter explores options for strengthening the AfCFTA’s contribution to implementing SDG 8.
