Strengthening the Resilience of Syrian Women and Girls and Host Communities in Turkey

Project Overview

This project is implemented under the leadership of UN Women and in cooperation with the Association for Solidarity with Asylum-Seekers and Migrants (ASAM) to ensure that “women, girls and their communities are resilient to conflict, displacement and other crises’’.

From the Government’s side Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality is the main counterpart. It aims towards the social and economic stabilization of Syrian women and girls in Turkey, and contributes to enhancing their self-reliance and ability to co-exist via a two-fold regional strategy.

The ILO is responsible for the socio-economic stabilization of Syrian and host community women and girls.

Objectives and Activities

Women refugees and host country nationals are empowered through increased longer term social and economic recovery and livelihood opportunities.

• Providing market oriented vocational and technical training courses;
• Providing entrepreneurship courses for Syrian women who are willing to start up their own business models.

• Establishing a mentoring/role model system for empowerment of women;
• Providing opportunities and resources for small scale income generation activities and supporting women’s cooperatives.
