Kenya and Uganda: Green entrepreneurship development
In 2010, based on a request from stakeholders, the Green Jobs Programme formed a partnership with the ILO Youth Entrepreneurship Facility (YEF) to promote green youth entrepreneurship.
Based on a partnership between the ILO Youth Entrepreneurship Facility (YEF) Africa and the Green Jobs Programme, training programmes for the promotion of green youth entrepreneurship were developed and implemented in Kenya and Uganda. Activities have enabled: i) 19,000 young women and men in self-employment to be trained in business and exposed to green entrepreneurship; ii) 5,600 students transitioning from secondary school to work to benefit from tailor-made green business training; and iii) 550 out of 3,000 business plans to be developed through business plan competitions were submitted under the green category.
As a result, many successful green enterprises have been created in developing green services or in the production of green goods.
The Youth Entrepreneurship Facility (YEF) is a partnership between the Africa Commission, the Youth Employment Netowrk (YEN) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Implemented from 2010-2015 in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, the partnership was funded by the Government of Denmark.
