The project addresses the pressing need to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) and expand access to social protection for workers in the soybean and sunflower value chains, particularly informal workers and smallholder farmers.

The project forms part of the support provided by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to promote decent work through improved OSH and social protection in the Republic of the Congo. Its implementation will help promote safer working conditions, reduce occupational risks and extend social protection coverage to the most vulnerable workers, thereby fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Main objectives
The project pursues three main objectives:

  • Develop strategies to improve OSH and access to social health protection for workers in the soybean and sunflower value chains.
  • Build the capacity of employers, workers and their representatives, as well as other agro-industry stakeholders, to improve OSH practices and promote health at both sectoral and workplace level.
  • Strengthen the capacity of these value chains to extend social protection coverage to workers and their families, with a particular focus on social health protection.

This project is implemented under two ILO flagship programmes: Safety + Health for All and Social Protection Floors for All.
