Enhancing skills of women and workers informal economy, harnessing the potential of green transition: Towards human-centered recovery from COVID-19

Project objectives

The objective is to support Nepal’s recovery from COVID-19 crisis through skills development in informal economy, harnessing the potential of green transition.

The project strategy focusses to address:

• Skills development needs for future of work, gender discrimination in labour market, and a just transition to green economy.
• COVID-19 induced loss of skilled workers by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in three most affected sectors (tourism, construction and manufacturing), and employment opportunities, including green jobs, for women and workers in informal economy in these sectors.
• COVID-19 induced job losses by women and workers in informal employment, including the returnee migrants

Project outcomes

• Identification of current and future skills needs in tourism, manufacturing and construction sectors
• Delivering short-term training through work-based learning and informal apprenticeships methodologies
• Strengthening basic employment services to women and workers in informal economy
• Recognition of competencies acquired informally

Target beneficiaries

• Women and workers in informal economy, including returnee migrants; Constituents and other key stakeholders
