Project information
The project seeks to provide support to small and medium enterprises through introducing innovative approaches for recovery and to improve management and labour intensity approaches in the construction sector and enhance access to decent and productive jobs for unemployed Gazan women and youth. The project focuses on women and youth, especially through supporting developing smart recovery solutions (mainly young women graduates) to address technical challenges faced by Gazan MSMEs.
The project has been closely coordinated with the Ministry of Labour and the ILO’s social partners under the framework of the response and recovery efforts in Gaza. Through tripartite representation of its board of directors, the intervention is implemented in partnership with the Palestinian Employment Fund – (PEF) with effective participation of social partners in designing the implementation mechanism and targeting beneficiaries.
Objectives
The intervention will focus on introducing new approaches and mechanisms for recovery and will enhance the capacity of tripartite partners for a more concerted effort in addressing employment challenges particularly for women and youth in Gaza. The intervention will mainly include the following:
- Support private sector enterprises in the Gaza Strip, with main focus on MSMEs and Cooperatives in industrial and productive sectors (prioritizing those that employ majority women), through:
- 1.1 Smart recovery solutions and business support packages provided to MSMEs and Cooperatives to ensure business continuity and employment promotion and retention, (business management, access to markets, productivity enhancement tools, and supply of talent).
- 1.2 Decent work principles including, OSH compliance, gender equality and non-discrimination, promoted and capacity building on management and introduction of employment intensive approaches enhanced in key industrial sectors in the Gaza Strip.
Outcomes
- SMEs and Cooperatives in productive sectors in the Gaza strip that employ majority women have enhanced productivity, competitiveness and growth and apply principles of DW in their workplaces.
Decent short-term jobs provided for targeted communities affected by the recent escalations and economic impacts of COVID-19 in Gaza.
