Emergency and Recovery Support to Restart Livelihoods, Income Generation and Food Self-sufficiency in Leyte Province - Department for International Development

In partnership with the Department for International Development (DFID), the International Labour Organization (ILO) responded through emergency employment, local resource-based work, skills training and enterprise development in Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)-affected areas.

The Department for International Development (DFID), UK has contributed US$1,636,570 to the ILO's “Emergency Employment and Sustainable Livelihood Recovery for Typhoon Haiyan” project to assist with rebuilding the livelihoods of people devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. Directly affected were about 5.6 million workers. Of these, 2.6 million were already in vulnerable employment and living at or near the poverty line even before the super typhoon.

The project contribution has supported around 5,023 persons through emergency employment, local resource-based work, skills development, and enterprise development. These beneficiaries were distributed across communities in the Municipalities of San Isidro, Villaba, Kananga and Ormoc City in the Province of Leyte.
