Brief Project Overview:
This Project is a way to increase economic opportunities and therefore economic resilience of the most vulnerable populations and workers with high risk of exposure to HIV infections. T
Two key results are expected from this project:
• Economic strengthening (increase of leading to higher savings, better access to social protection e,g: micro credit systems; increased wellbeing e.g: nutrition, educations)
• Empowerment of organized groups within population who apply to principles of solidarity and mutuality and provide access to health care and social protection to their members.
Institutional capacity building aims at strengthening technical, organizational and management skills of support structures so that they can deliver relevant services to their members and clients, ILO constituents include trade unions, employers organizations and government.
Objectives:
Objective 1: Policy makers and promoters make evidence-based decisions to mainstream the economic empowerment model into HIV and AIDS regional and national agendas.
Objective 2: To economically empower targeted men and women along selected transport corridors by increasing the availability of economic services to prevent and mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS in selected transport corridors.
Objective 3: To reduce HIV vulnerability by increasing access to effective HIV and AIDS prevention and impact mitigation and social services provided by targeted operators (members organizations such as cooperatives, informal associations, MSMEs) along selected transport corridors.
Expected deliverables:
The HIV and AIDS prevention and impact mitigation through economic empowerment gives opportunity for communities to improve their skills in the reduction of poverty and at the same time improve negotiation skills for safe sex.
Beneficiaries of the project were lacking business development skills so they reported during the trainings that the trainings are going to help them to increase the household income as they were basically doing business without skills and they were not getting good profit. They are going to be trusted by MFIs providing funds for informal sector. The membership of project partners improves and they are now well reorganized.
