Eco-Langouste Project Madagascar

Objective

The project aims to build the capacity of workers' and employers' organizations for sustainable management of the lobster industry. It promotes entrepreneurship, formalizes informal players, reduces post-harvest losses, builds resilience to climate shocks and develops technical and professional ecological skills.

Expected results

• Formalization of 100 local players into Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) or cooperatives.
• Establishment of social dialogue mechanisms for sustainable management.
• Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) training for industry players.
• Deployment of a training program in line with lobster fishing technical standards.
  

Strategic contributions

• Program for the Promotion of Decent Work (PPDW) Madagascar : Support for Priority 1 (creation of decent jobs) and Result 1.3 (promotion of investment in the blue and green economy).
• United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF): Alignment with Priorities 3 (productivity and competitive job creation) and 4 (inclusive and resilient environmental management).
• Abidjan Declaration: Strengthening social dialogue and policy coherence for a just transition.
• Improving productivity in line with regional recommendations.

Beneficiairies

Fishing communities in the Anosy region are the main beneficiaries of this initiative (at least one hundred fishing households).
