Community Based Routine Maintenance (CBRM) under the RISE Project

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) and Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is implementing a “Roads to Inclusion and Socio-economic Opportunities (RISE)” programme which is financed by the World Bank since 2021. The objective of this programme is to “Improve rural road access and provide employment opportunities for population in selected rural areas and build capacity in the sustainable management of rural roads incorporating community engagement approaches”. The programme has three components, namely, 1) rural road development and maintenance - regional and district, 2) institutional strengthening of TARURA in managing social & environmental risks, road safety, labour-based maintenance & human capital, and 3) community engagement, inclusion and protection activities.

The ILO implements the component 1d: Community Based Routine Maintenance (CBRM), of the RISE Project which seeks to provide technical support by strengthening capacity of TARURA in the implementation and rolling out of the CBRM sub-component, including the finalization of the design of the CBRM models to be applied.
