ILO at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)

The 2025 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is bringing together ministerial and high-level representatives of governments, as well as a wide range of expertise and stakeholders, including heads of UN entities, academics and other experts, and representatives of major groups and other stakeholders.

The theme of the this year's Forum is “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind".

The 2025 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is conducting an in-depth review of SDG 8 - Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all, as well as of SDGs 3, 5, 14 and 17.

The ILO actively contributed to the preparatory process of the SDG 8 review including through an Expert Group Meeting organized in collaboration with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs in February 2025 in New York. The meeting brought together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders and gathered written contributions to assess progress on SDG 8, identify challenges, and formulate recommendation for accelerated implementation.

Staff experts of the ILO and UN DESA, with contributions by UN system colleagues, developed a Technical Background Paper for the 2025 HLPF Thematic Review of SDG 8. The Secretariat Background Note for the SDG 8 Session at the 2025 HLPF.

At the HLPF, the ILO will be involved in a number of sessions including on SDG 8 and interlinkages with other SDGs as well as the ECOSOC High-level Segment.
