My Green Business

A business development programme of the ILO that promotes economic inclusion, environmental sustainability and decent work through green entrepreneurship.

What is the My Green Business Programme?

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, together with self-employed workers, account for more than 90 per cent of all businesses worldwide and generate around 70 per cent of global employment. While their individual energy use may be small—and therefore their emissions and environmental footprint as well—their collective impact is significant.

This is why the ILO developed the My Green Business Programme, a business development methodology that fosters the creation of green, sustainable and innovative enterprises, as well as the greening of existing micro and small businesses..

Who is the My Green Business Programme for?

My Green Business aims to promote green, productive and sustainable businesses, particularly among populations experiencing greater vulnerability. The programme seeks to help them address unemployment, informality and underemployment by providing pathways to decent work and improved living conditions.

Specifically, My Green Business is designed for two profiles of entrepreneurs:

  • Entrepreneurs who already run a business and wish to incorporate cleaner processes to reduce or eliminate their carbon footprint and environmental impact.
  • Aspiring entrepreneurs who want to start a green business that, in addition to generating economic returns, delivers social and environmental benefits.

What courses are included in the My Green Business Programme?

How is the My Green Business Programme implemented?

My Green Business is implemented through business development professionals who are certified by the ILO as facilitators of this methodology.

National and local public institutions, NGOs, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and other entities engaged in building business capacities and promoting productive and sustainable entrepreneurship can integrate My Green Business into their programmes and train their staff to become certified facilitators.
