Draft Revised Labour Code Discussed in Uzbekistan

From July 31 to August 3, 2019, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with the International Labour Organization organized a seminar on Improving Labour Legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The participants discussed a draft revised Labour Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The new revision of the Labour Code has been developed in accordance with the State Programme for the implementation of the Action Strategy for the five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021.

The seminar was attended by members of the Expert Working Group who developed the draft, ILO specialists, representatives of the Federation of Trade Unions and the Chamber of Commerce/Confederation of Employers, Parliament, relevant Ministries  (Employment and Labour Relations, Economic Affairs, Justice, Finance, Health, and Tertiary Education), and a representative of the General Prosecutor’s Office. The participants discussed the draft Labour Code article by article.

During the event, representatives of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations noted that this draft of the Labour Code, when adopted, will strengthen the legal basis for fostering decent employment opportunities, improving working conditions and ensuring the labour rights of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The next round of discussions is scheduled for September 2019.
