Youth Employment Conference

The Workshop aims to enhance cooperation between the various stakeholders of youth employment in Indonesia and to make youth employment policies in Indonesia operational.

Background

Indonesia joined the lead country for Youth Employment Network in 2003. The Commitment was re-affirmed in 2009 with a letter from the Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs to the Secretary General of United Nations. As one of the world’s largest youth populations, Indonesia’s youth have a substantial share of the country’s labour force. In 2009, there is 21,1 million youth aged 15-24 in the labour force, and out of this 22.43 per cent are unemployed. This figure is much higher than the figure in the region at 15.3 per cent. Like in many other countries, Indonesia has a huge concern over youth unemployment. The conference brings together experts and practitioners from the government, NGOs, academics, and the private sectors to share their views on the issues of Youth Employment.

Objectives

Enhanced cooperation between the various stakeholders of youth employment in Indonesia;
Economic fundamentals in Indonesia would be addressed, as well as opportunities for youth to work and start their own businesses; and
A discussion on the future of youth employment in Indonesia and how to make youth employment policies in Indonesia operational would be deliberated.
