World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2024 Seminar in Bangkok, Thailand
The ILO, through the ILO/Japan “Promotion of a safe and healthy working environment as Fundamental Principle and Right at Work through application of Fundamental conventions in Cambodia and Thailand” Project, co-organized the seminar to observe the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2024, with the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division, Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW), Ministry of Labour of Thailand on 26 April 2024 in Bangkok.
The seminar attracted more than 150 on-site participants from tripartite partners, academia, safety network, public and private organizations, along with 580 online participants. They learned from the experts from various ministries and agencies, and representatives from the employers’ and workers’ organizations about the impacts of climate change on safety and health of workers and further, the society as a whole, and mitigation measures against this global threat.
Phipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, in his opening speech, reiterated the importance of raising awareness and compliance with the relevant laws and regulations to ensure the protection of workers from the impact of climate change. In addition, he called for collective action at the national and workplace level.
The participants were invited to the exhibitions from six organizations, including OSH division of DLPW, Division of Occupational and Environmental Diseases of Department of Disease Control and Health Promotion, Preventive Medicine division of Royal Thai Army Medicine Department, Employers’ Confederation of Thailand, World Health Organization and ILO, showcasing their activities on this topic. Additionally, a public forum on the ratification of the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155) of Thailand was coincided with this seminar.
