Workshop on Reviewing Training Curriculum/Syllabus and Modules on Housekeeping, Laundry and Family Cooking for Domestic Workers

Background

The ILO Jakarta is currently implementing PROMOTE project aiming at promoting Decent Work for Domestic Workers (DWDW) and at eliminating child labour in the domestic work sector. One of the project’s expected outputs is the recognition and skills improvement for domestic worker through the development and trial of working skills curriculum for domestic workers, particularly for in-country domestic workers, referring to National Working Competency Standard of Indonesia (SKKNI). These recognition and improvement are expected to enhance the status of domestic work as a recognized profession.

Government of Indonesia has adopted the 2015 SKKNI for domestic workers through the Employment Ministerial Decree No. 313/2015 under the category of household individual services. Although this competency standard was designed for national domestic workers work abroad or in the country, the standard is commonly used the curriculum development for migrant domestic workers and not commonly yet used for in-country domestic workers, except for babysitting. Therefore, it is needed to develop educational and training curriculum for in-country domestic workers based on the SKKNI and the needs of domestic sector in Indonesia.

The PROMOTE Project is currently developing working skills curriculum for in-country domestic workers, covering housekeeping (including laundry) and family cooking based on the 2015 SKKNI. The curriculum will be equipped with syllabus and modules that will be tried out in the school of domestic workers. To obtain further inputs from relevant stakeholders, the ILO Jakarta Office will facilitate a one-day workshop aimed at getting inputs from stakeholders to finalize the curriculum draft, syllabus and modules.

Objective

This workshop is aimed to collect and gather inputs and suggestions from relevant stakeholders on the finalization of the curriculum/syllabus drafts and samples of modules for housekeeping (including laundry) and family cooking for in-country domestic workers.
