Workshop on Labour Statistics beyond the Labour Force Survey

The workshop will provide information about two issues related to labour statistics:

1. labour market trends and data issues in BRICS countries;
2. dissemination and analysis of labour statistics: international best practices.

It will also give the opportunity to discuss possible future cooperation between the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) and the ILO.

Mr Steven Kapsos, ILO specialist on labour statistics, will present current trends of the labour market and particularly mention data issues by looking at several BRICS countries that relevant examples for China.

In the second part, Steven Kapsos will go into more detail on good practices on dissemination and analysis in other countries as the US and EU member countries.

The ILO and the MOHRSS are currently re-establishing their successful collaboration on the labour cost survey in the past. Future cooperation will include the ILO’s technical advice and guidance on labour market statistics.

The focus at this workshop on MOHRSS-ILO cooperation is to expand existing cooperation and explore additional opportunities for further cooperation. One possible area of the cooperation with the MOHRSS and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is, the possibility of a joint ILO-China work on a Labour Market Trends publication which could present some of China’s key labour statistics.
