Tripartite Workshop on Work in Fishing Convention No.188
Two-day National Tripartite Workshop on Work in Fishing Convention No.188 to discuss, disseminate and validate the findings of the Gap Analysis prepared by the Ministry of Labour and Employment with ILO's support and to promote steps towards ratification of this Convention.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MOLE), Government of India has initiated steps towards exploring the possibilities of ratification of the Work in Fishing Convention, No.188. The ILO supported the MOLE and the Department of Fishing, Ministry of Agriculture, the social partners and other stakeholders to have an insight on the features of this Convention through two national workshops in October 2010 and January 2011.
Following the October 2010 workshop, a Task Force was formed to advise the MOLE in preparation of a Gap Analysis between the existing legislation and the International Labour Standards Convention No.188 (Work in Fishing). The October 2010 meeting also recommended a broad discussion amongst the stakeholders.
Accordingly, the second national tripartite workshop was organized in January 2011.
As a follow-up to the recommendations to these workshops and based on the views expressed by the Trade Unions in the Tripartite Committee on Conventions chaired by MOLE, as a first step towards initiating the ratification process, the MOLE prepared a Gap Analysis, with technical and financial support from ILO, between the existing national legislation and the International Labour Convention No.188 (Work in Fishing).
The proposed two-day National Tripartite Workshop on Work in Fishing (No.188) is being organized at Goa during 8 - 9 February, 2013. The objectives of the tripartite workshop are :
a. To enhance the understanding of the stakeholders on C-188
b. To share and validate the Gap Analysis prepared by MOLE between C-188 and the national legislation.
c. To discuss way forward in ratification of the Convention
