Formalization of the Informal Economy Project (Phase II)
Training of trainers for improving occupational safety and health (OSH) in small and medium-sized enterprises
The ILO’s Formalization of the informal economy project organized a two-day training of trainers (ToT) for Improving OSH in small and medium-sized enterprises in collaboration with the Occupational safety and health center (OSHC) from 23 to 24 September 2025.
MONGOLIA (ILO News) – Chang-Hee Lee, Director of ILO Country Office for China and Mongolia, delivered a video opening speech highlighting that the training is not only about identifying hazards and risks—it’s about discovering practical, cost-effective solutions that can be implemented in real-world SME settings.
In the opening remarks, Munkhzul.L, State Secretary of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Protection (MFLSP), and Naransukh.D, Chairman of OSHC, emphasized the importance of the training and the need of the OSH trainers in SMEs. A total of 39 participants attended, representing a wide range of institutions, including the MFLSP, Mongolian Labour University, University of Engineering and Technology, Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, the Confederation of Mongolian Trade Union (CMTU), the OSHC, OSH training centers, and private sector experts from industries such as airlines, funeral services, telecommunications, mining equipment supply, and construction. Participants came from several provinces, including Umnugobi,Tuv, and Darkhan-Uul.
This ToT is designed to prepare trainers who will train SME owners and workers on how to establish and maintain a safe and healthy work environment. The sessions were facilitated by Yuka Ujita, senior OSH specialist of the ILO, based on the Learner's Handbook and Trainer's Guide for "Improving occupational safety and health in small and medium-sized enterprises", ILO’s training manuals.
During the training, participants shared their experiences and identified hazards at the training venue, working in groups.
Yuka Ujita provided the participants with the checklists, designed for the SMEs and presented short training videos. She also shared the successful OSH examples in the SMEs.
