Symposium: Advancing a just transition towards a greener future with decent jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean
This side event in the framework of the OECD Ministerial Summit on Environmental Sustainability in Costa Rica seeks to promote regional debate on the consequences of climate change and related labour policies. Representatives from the world of work will participate in the meeting this October 4.

San José - The ILO office for Latin America and the Caribbean is convening the Symposium: Advancing a just transition towards a greener future with decent jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean, a side event in the framework of the OECD Ministerial Summit on Environmental Sustainability to be held on October 4 in San José, Costa Rica.
During the first part of the hybrid event (face-to-face and virtual), the ILO's Global Green Jobs Coordinator, Moustapha Kamal Gueye, together with a ministerial panel of governments from the region, will address the theme: "Just transition: transforming processes and workplaces for sustainability with decent work and social dialogue".
In the second part, a bipartite session will be held with representatives of workers and employers to discuss the role of trade union and business organizations in the transition to a low carbon economy.
The meeting is scheduled for 09:00 San Jose and Mexico City time (10:00 Bogota, Lima and Quito, 12:00 Santiago and Asuncion, 13:00 Brasilia and Buenos Aires, 15:00 GMT).

- To promote debate in the region on the effects of climate change and climate change policies on employment;
- To foster reflection on how aspects related to the labour market and social justice can be incorporated into the process of elaborating and implementing climate policies with a human rights-based focus and social inclusion approach with particular attention paid to youth, gender, and marginalized groups;
- To encourage an exchange of information between countries in the region on challenges and opportunities to enhance the creation of decent employment in the just transition processes; and
- To explore the ways in which the social partners (workers’ and employers’ organizations) can contribute to a just transition through the promotion of actions and policies in favour of creating green jobs, within the framework of social dialogue.
