Masterclasses series “The skills bridge” - Episode 1

Succeeding at dual vocation education and training, a Swiss case study

The masterclass series serves as a unique platform to take stock of innovative approaches, identify new practices, and evaluate recent developments in the dual Vocational Education and Training (VET) and apprenticeship ecosystems.

Objectives

In collaboration with the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI) Switzerland, EP2 of “The SKILLS Bridge” Masterclasses discussed success factors of the dual VET system in Switzerland, including:

  1. Attractiveness of dual VET/ apprenticeships and enabling factors: from a systemic perspective – from a company perspective – from an individual perspective.
  2. VET learning in different settings: the necessity of coordination and cooperation between learning locations – variations for the organisation of dual VET - the operational challenges and advantages for a company – the pedagogy of dual VET – new approaches to facilitate coordination.
  3. Work-based learning as an essential means to acquire transversal competences: importance for companies - efficiency – role of transversal competences as a basis for LLL.
