Study visit: Public employment services in Malaysia

The study visit, organized by the ILO Promoting the Global Development Initiative with a Focus on South-South Cooperation in Employment in ASEAN (ProSSCE-ASEAN) project in collaboration with PERKESO and supported by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China, aims to enhance the expertise and capabilities of Public Employment Services (PES) members from South-East Asian countries. This initiative will highlight Malaysia's effective strategies in public employment services management and service delivery. The visit is set to address specific areas identified by PES services from participating countries as crucial for adapting to labour market transitions and establishing efficient, functioning institutional frameworks.

These areas encompass leveraging the Labour Market Information System (LMIS) within PES, fostering the professional development of employment counsellors, ensuring ongoing skill updates, promoting intergovernmental coordination (both national and provincial), and adopting new technologies in PES practices. This endeavour aligns with the ProSSCE-ASEAN project's commitment to facilitating the exchange of knowledge and encouraging collaborative learning on vital public employment service topics, thereby supporting the progress of decent work and social justice.

The objective of this study visit is to enhance the knowledge and skills of members of the Public Employment Services (PES) in ASEAN countries by sharing knowledge and good practices in the management of public employment services in Malaysia. Key areas of focus include the utilisation of Labour Market Information System (LMIS) in the PES, capacity building for job counsellors, coordination between central and provincial levels, and the integration of new technologies in PES operations. This initiative aligns closely with the ProSSCE-ASEAN project's goal of fostering knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer learning in domains pertinent to public employment services.
