Strategic Policy Working Group Meeting

The ILO “Strengthen” Project organized a half day Strategic Policy Working Group meeting to commission three studies under the project namely:
1. Background Study on the Agricultural Sector of Ghana with Special Focus on Agro- Processing
2. Background Study on the Infrastructure Sector of Ghana with Special Focus on Public Investments
3. Impact of Sector and Trade Policies on Employment

Participants included members of the Interim National Employment Coordinating Council (INECC) and Policy Working Group (PWG). Also present were the Minister designate for Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Hon Ignatius Baafour Awuah, confirmed on 7th February, 2017, together with key personnel of the Ministry, the Chief Director Mr Sammy-Longman Attakumah and the Director for Finance and Administration, Mr Rudolf Kuuzegh. Key ministries represented include Ministries of Trade and Industry; Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Environment, Science and Technology.

Also present were representatives of Ghana Employers’ Association and the private sector. Mr Maikel Lieuw-Kie-Song, a Trade and Employment Specialist from ILO Geneva, shared with members, global experiences of the project in 6 other countries together with their respective progress reports.

The lead consultants of the three studies also presented on their respective methodologies and as well obtained from members relevant inputs to the study. The outcome of the meeting was the validation of the Terms of References and methodology for the three studies respectively. The findings of these studies is expected to feed into national trade and sector policies for the economy.
