South-South technical workshop: Promoting skills and employment for decent work in rural development

The International Labour Organization (ILO) collaborates with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China (MOHRSS) to organize the South-South Technical Workshop: Promoting Skills and Employment for Decent Work in Rural Development in Huzhou city.

The workshop aims to strengthen international exchanges on skills development and employment between China and South-East Asian countries through South-South and Triangular Cooperation, enhance mutual learning among developing countries on how to promote employment and revitalize rural economy through skills development, and share innovative practices from governments, enterprises and TVET schools in the region.

The workshop is a collaborative effort between the Quality Apprenticeship and Lifelong Learning in China Project Phase 2, the Promoting the Global Development Initiative with a Focus on South-South Cooperation in Employment in ASEAN and the ILO/China Partnership Programme on Strengthening Skills Development in Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Myanmar, supported by MOHRSS.

Objectives

  • To provide overviews of current regional and national strategies and policies on vocational skills training for rural development
  • To share existing innovative practices from rural employers’ perspective on skills development and PES to boost rural economy in China and ASEAN countries
  • To exchange good experiences from TVET schools’ perspective on conducting skills training in rural areas in China and ASEAN countries
  • To enhance awareness and advocacy among key stakeholders in investing in skills development in rural areas
  • To identify potential measures and cooperations to enhance skills development and PES in rural areas among emerging countries

Participants

Representatives from key stakeholders on skills development from China and ASEAN, including policymakers, TVET institutions leaders and senior trainers from rural areas, managers and trainers of enterprises from rural areas, experts from relevant development agencies will participate.
