Soft-Launch of Handbook and Knowledge Sharing Workshop on GEDSI integration into Learning Process in the Polytechnic

Objectives

The overall objective of the training workshop is at improving equity in access to maritime education, training and employment of under-represented groups including women and promoting social inclusion at maritime workplaces, with the following specific objectives:

1. To launch a training manual entitled ‘Mainstreaming Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and prevention and handling sexual harassment in Polytechnic.
2. To scale up good practices of GEDSI mainstreaming into learning process in the Polytechnic through a knowledge sharing workshop.

Background

With support of the UK Government, the ILO has been implementing skills for Prosperity (SfP) project in Indonesia since 2019 at aiming to improve skills development policies and systems and enhance employability and future-readiness of young women and men including those from disadvantaged groups aspiring to pursue and advance career in the maritime industry. Under pilar Equity, the project aims at improving equity in access to maritime education for vulnerable groups including women.

The SfP project has facilitated mainstreaming GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion) issues into learning process in the Polytechnic partners, namely State Polytechnic of Shipbuilding Surabaya (PPNS), Batam State Polytechnic (Polibatam), State Polytechnic of Seafaring Semarang (Polimarin) and Manado State Polytechnic (Polimanado). Various capacity building and technical assistance have been provided including awareness raising on non-discrimination, disability, Violence and Harassment. The project has also supported the development a standard operational procedure (SOP) in four Polytechnic partners and capacity improvement of the task force members on the prevention and handling sexual harassment.
