Social Protection Lectures #7: Maternity and paternity benefits across the world
This ILO Jakarta Social Protection Lecture explores international practices, trends, and roles of maternity and paternity benefits.
Speakers will discuss what maternity and paternity benefits are; what maternity protection mechanisms exist across the world (i.e. international trends); how maternity and paternity benefits could improve worker’s protection, business and national economies (i.e. health care, income security, industrial relations, labour market); what advantages social insurance principles have over employers’ liability schemes to finance those benefits; and how these benefits could help extension of social protection and promote female labour force participations.
