Social Protection Lectures #6: Social protection and climate change

This ILO Jakarta Social Protection Lecture explores international practices, trends and strategies.

Climate change will continue to increase the risks people face throughout their lives – becoming a main driver of socioeconomic risks, directly increasing poverty, vulnerability and inequality.

During this lecture, speakers will discuss what role social protection can play to protect people against current and future impacts of climate change – but also actively contribute to a just transition to a sustainable economy and society; and what approaches and strategies exist globally. It will pay particular attention to how contributory and non-contributory schemes can be effectively coordinated to not only increase coverage towards universality but also ensure that efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change are sustainable, leaving no one behind.
