Sensitizing Youth Groups of Jakarta on the Plight of Domestic Workers and Child Domestic Workers

The event is aimed to sensitize Jakarta youths regarding the plight of child domestic workers and to raise the public awareness on the issues about Decent Work for Domestic Workers in Indonesia and Elimination of Child Domestic Labour.

Background

The ILO through its Promoting Decent Work for Domestic Workers (PROMOTE) Project in collaboration with Yayasan Kampung Halaman conducted a project targeting Jakarta and Makassar called “Teman Remaja, Teman Setara” that supported young groups to involve in the efforts of promotion of decent works for domestic workers and the elimination of child domestic labor through development of video diaries and photo stories.

The groups received technical knowledge of video and photo making from experts of Yayasan Kampung Halaman and they produced nine video diaries and photo stories that emphasizing the life of domestic workers. The ILO-PROMOTE project also supported the screening of the video diaries and photo stories in Makassar, Jakarta, Surabaya and Tangerang targeting school students.

To better raise public awareness of rights of domestic workers, the project would like to conduct video screening of the video diaries and photo stories in Jakarta in collaboration with Children Forum of Jakarta and Provincial Office of Women Empowerment and Child Protection of DKI Jakarta..

The target groups of this activity are grade II of high school students, members of Children Forum of Jakarta, which they are expected to conduct similar activity to transfer the knowledge to other students at their respective school.

Objective

  • To sensitize Jakarta youths to the plight of child domestic workers and raising public awareness on the issues of Decent Work for Domestic Workers and the Elimination of Child Domestic Workers.

Output

  • 15-20 students, members of Children Forum of Jakarta, will participate and be aware about the issue of Decent Work for Domestic Workers and eliminations of Child Domestic Workers and will have commitment to disseminate the knowledge gained through the workshop.
