Second National Stakeholders Workshop on Convention 188 “Working in Fishing Sector”

This preparatory workshop which is the second in the series is being organized at the request of the Governemnt of India to sensitize the state governments of coastal states of India, social partners and all other stakeholders on the Convention 188 to initiate promotion of ratification. Based on the first such workshop held in September 2010 at Kochi, a Task Force has been established by the Ministry of Labour and Employment with paricipation of representatives from Fishers Unions, NGOs, boat owners/employers to take forward the preparation of a gap analysis. This follow-up workshop has been requested by the Government of India following a recommendation made in the first workshop to expand participation of more boat owners/employers.
