Raising awareness to stop the worst forms of child labour
The ILO held an event on World Day Against Child Labour to raise awareness and call for prompt action to stop the worst forms of child labour.
In collaboration with UNHCR, UNICEF, and the UN Country Team Syria, the ILO in Syria marked World Day Against Child Labour to raise awareness and call for prompt action to stop the worst forms of child labour. The aim of the event was to highlight the dangers of work to children’s health, education, and morals, as well as work that interferes with their compulsory education or for which they are too young, and to highlight the need to review national laws regarding child labour.
The participants included children, families and service providers from across Syria, as well as ILO constituents and UN Agencies.
The outcome of the event included educational services for children involved in or transitioning from child labour; increased community support for education; providing support to families that are at high risk of or currently engaged in child labour; and strengthening national and local policies that promote education and protect children.
The ILO conducted several other activities in collaboration with other UN agencies, including a digital and social media campaign; issuing a paper that discusses the impact of COVID-19 on child labour; and disseminating information relating to child labour to NGOs across Syria.
