The project supports occupational safety and health through international labour standards

ILO’s EU-funded Trade for Decent Work project conducted a needs assessment report on revising the Law on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). As part of this effort, two consultation meetings were held on 29 October and 4 December 2024. These meetings discussed the needs assessment report and a draft concept note for revising the law.

A total of 35 representatives took part in these discussions. Participants included officials from the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Protection (MFLSP), the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Ministry of Energy (MoE), the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development (MCUD), the Ministry of Road and Transport Development (MRTD), the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MoET), the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MOFALI), the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI), the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSH Center), and other professional associations.

On 04 December, the project co-organized a National tripartite workshop on OSH with over 40 participants. These included representatives from government agencies, UN agencies, employers, and workers' organizations. The workshop focused on:

• The OSH Law revision process.
• ILO Conventions on OSH;
• Findings from a 2023 comparative analysis between the current OSH Law and ILO Convention No. 187.

During the workshop, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Protection (MFLSP) announced that the revised OSH Law would be submitted to Parliament in 2025. This revision aims to align the national OSH framework with international labour standards and improve workplace safety and health for all.

Additionally, the project has worked in synergy with the EU-funded SDG - Aligned budgeting to transform employment in Mongolia (SDGBE) project. This collaboration has enhanced efforts to improve public financial management and employment systems in Mongolia, ensuring that the revised OSH Law supports broader goals of decent work and sustainable development.
