Presentation of the 1986 Amendment to the ILO Constitution for the Caribbean Countries
On 25 September 2024, the ILO organized a tripartite event at which the 1986 Amendment to the ILO Constitution was presented. ILO specialists and tripartite representatives of Member States discussed the impact of the amendment on the governance of the organization.
On 25 September 2024, the Tripartite Event on Democracy and Governance in the ILO took place, focusing on the 1986 Amendment to the ILO Constitution. The Regional Director of the ILO Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Ana Virginia Moreira Gomes, opened the meeting by highlighting the importance of the amendment in improving the governance of the Organization and encouraging greater constituent participation in key ILO decisions.
Ana Virginia Moreira Gomes also presented the background and potential impact of the amendment, highlighting the benefits it will bring once ratified. The session was attended by tripartite representatives who discussed the changes that the amendment would introduce in the structure of the ILO, such as the composition of the Governing Body and the appointment of the Director-General.
