Outputs
The occupational safety and health campaign workshop had been launched in 6 main industrial areas in Myanmar. (Bago, Irrawaddy, Kayin, Mandalay, Yangon and Hmawbi township) The campaign initiative aims to reach two main objectives:- Raise awareness among constituents about OSH issues in Myanmar.
- Strengthen institutional capacity of constituents such as FGLLID, trade unions and employers’ associations.
Before holding this workshop, metal-work site visit had been done by KOSHA trainers and ILO OSH expert to get better understanding about metal working industry in Myanmar. The site-visiting opportunity allowed the experts and KOSHA trainers to recognize OSH status and key processes in metal-working workplace and this contributed to the improvement of the OSH knowledge level of participants of campaign workshop.
In this campaign workshop, trainers were invited from KOSHA and they shared practical method for accident prevention activities and countermeasures with KOSHA’s experience for metal-work industry at enterprise level. A participatory approach with the help of training aids and safety videos/pictures as well as practical demonstration were applied during the training sessions.
Pre and Post OSH knowledge for metal-work assessment were conducted before and after the training sessions and follow up outcome evaluation instruments were planned to measure the effectiveness of training sessions.
There was a significant increase in the score for between pre and post assessment (average score of pre 20.43% and post 64.13% out of 100%). The evaluators expected more than 60% correctness for the post assessment and the results were met their expectation despite most of them being unfamiliar with the concept of occupational safety and health.
The participants in this campaign workshop adopted a consensus about the need to pay more attention to safety and health at workplace.
