The Department of Youth Development (DYD) has been identified as a key partner in the implementation of a significant project, pending government approval, with a focus on vocational training and skill development in the Cox's Bazar region. To ensure the effective involvement of DYD officials at the Upazila and district levels, an orientation workshop was organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO). The workshop aimed to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the DYD officials and their strategic engagement with the project. The expected outcomes of the workshop were to provide local DYD officials with a clear understanding of their roles in project implementation and to outline the institutional capacity development interventions for DYD officials in Cox's Bazar under the project.
Inauguration The workshop commenced with a warm welcome from the ILO presenter, who encouraged participants to introduce themselves, fostering a sense of community among the attendees. Ms. Ruchika Bahl, Head of ILO Sub-office, Cox's Bazar, expressed her gratitude to the participants for their presence and highlighted the importance of the workshop in the context of ILO's project and the pivotal role of DYD officials in implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs in Cox's Bazar. Other key officials, such as Md. Kazi Moklesur Rahman, Joint Secretary (Planning-3 Section), and Mr. M A Akher, Director Planning, DYD, also extended their thanks to the ILO team and emphasized the importance of understanding roles and responsibilities to achieve the project's goals.
Discussion During the workshop, Mr. Md. Serajul Islam, National Project Manager, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the project's objectives, target beneficiaries, and key activities, such as building the capacity of training institutes, curriculum development, training and certification, and post-training support for job placement. He also addressed inquiries from DYD officials, providing a clear understanding of the project's scope and objectives. Furthermore, Mr. M A Akher, Director Planning, DYD, detailed the specific roles and responsibilities of DYD officials, emphasizing their critical role in the project's implementation. The workshop also highlighted the project's focus on benefiting the Bangladeshi community, particularly women, youth, ethnic and religious minorities, and people with disabilities.
The orientation workshop served as a pivotal starting point in ensuring that the Department of Youth Development officials in Cox's Bazar are well-prepared and informed about their crucial roles in the forthcoming project.
